ABSTRACT: This research examines the effectiveness of peer mentoring programs in vocational settings, highlighting their impact on student support and skill development. The objectives were to (1) evaluate the role of peer mentoring in enhancing student engagement and retention, (2) assess the impact of peer mentoring on academic and practical skill development, and (3) identify best practices for implementing peer mentoring programs. A survey design was employed to gather data from students, mentors, and educators, providing a multi-faceted perspective on peer mentoring. The sample size comprised 200 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to ensure relevant insights from those involved in peer mentoring. The case study focused on Kaduna State, Nigeria, known for its robust vocational education system. Findings revealed that peer mentoring significantly improved student engagement, retention, and skill development by providing support and guidance from experienced peers. Challenges such as matching mentors and mentees and ensuring program sustainability were noted. Recommendations included formalizing peer mentoring programs, providing training for mentors, and establishing clear guidelines and objectives to enhance the effectiveness of peer mentoring in vocational settings.
